Current assets

Assets expected to turn into cash within the year.

Current assets brings together inventories, debtors, securities held to be sold, and cash at bank and in hand. Its counterpart is fixed assets — what is held to be used rather than sold.

Set against creditors falling due within one year, it shows whether the company can meet the coming months' obligations. Where short-term creditors persistently exceed current assets, the company depends on new funding or on its suppliers' patience.
